Water-based epoxy resin is used as a sealant, primer on concrete floors, and optionally as a complete floor coating itself.
Waterborne epoxy resins usually have low VOC (volatile organic compounds)
Like most solid epoxy floor coatings, water-based epoxy floor coatings are almost odorless (not worse than latex wall coatings) and have good chemical resistance and abrasion resistance.
It has good adhesion and is less affected by UV yellowing than other epoxy resins.
Waterborne epoxy resin coatings are much thinner than single layer coatings of 100% solid epoxy resin.
Water-based epoxy resin has several other advantages
They can be colored; safe for the environment; low maintenance; economical.
Being water-based, epoxy resin will soak into porous surfaces, such as concrete, before curing, thereby forming a strong bond. This may be stronger than the "surface only" adhesion achieved with solid epoxy epoxy flooring, so it makes an excellent primer under solid epoxy.
Anti-slip and decorative floors
The water-based epoxy resin used in the basement provides a variety of non-slip and/or decorative treatments:
One coat (sometimes two coats) is usually very thin to maintain the original (non-slip) texture of the concrete
The epoxy resin coating is also thin enough to use our very fine anti-slip additives (note: in thicker coatings, the anti-slip additives will disappear in the coating), resulting in a sandpaper-like finish
However, the epoxy coating is also thick enough to allow the use of our larger anti-slip additives
It will also accept colored sand and/or vinyl fragments to be played on its surface.
application
Waterborne epoxy can be applied by brush, broom, nap roller or texture spray gun. Apply M50 epoxy resin
Waterborne epoxy requires two coats. In commercial applications, a three-layer coating is recommended.
