Step l: Evaluate your floor

Paint flooring is a tough, long-lasting coating that you paint onto the concrete. An epoxy floor resists grease, oil and many other substances that would ruin ordinary paint. Garage floor epoxy paints clean easily and can be found in a variety of colors, so you can keep your epoxy floor paints sparkling clean and attractive for years.

However, the reality of this challenging project is, one, not all concrete floors will hold epoxy floor coatings, and two, preparing concrete for epoxy floor coatings can be labor intensive and tedious. That said, this direction will help you assess your concrete's condition, show you how to clean, and demonstrate how to apply an epoxy floor coating that will handle car traffic, chemicals, oils, salt and scraping better than any other paint or stain.

As with any other paint job, success with using epoxy floor paints lies in the prep work. Plan to spend the first day removing oil spots, cleaning/degreasing the floor, and scrubbing.

Step2: Analyze the floor and weather

Before you even consider an epoxy floor, test to determine if dampness is coming up through the concrete from the ground. If moisture is evident, see pic 2 for demos of moisture test, you need to contact JIANBANG technical support. Here is the way to moisture test:

  • Cut clear plastic sheeting into a 24" by 24" square.
  • Make sure that the concrete where you intend to place the plastic is free of standing water as this will skew your test results.
  • Tape the plastic firmly to the concrete with duct tape or any other kind of waterproof tape. Firmly press down all sides of the tape to prevent moisture from escaping.
  • Wait 48 hours.

• Check the plastic to see if any moisture has beaded up on the inside of the plastic.

If you're dealing with a new slab, you must wait a minimum of 28 days, preferably two months, for the floor to cure and dry thoroughly before applying an epoxy flooring. And if you're dealing with a previously painted floor, the best advice is to remove the paint, especially when you're applying a solvent-based epoxy flooring paint that could soften any that remains.

If your concrete passed these tests, make sure the weekend weather passes, too. The temperature of the concrete must be a minimum of 12 °C, with an air temperature between 15 and 32 °C for optimum epoxy floor paint curing/drying.

Step3: Floor cleaning

To begin, use a flat-edged shovel or scraper to loosen hardened surface debris,then sweep it out with a broom, see Fig 3. Next, mix up an 18.5 L batch of water and concrete cleaner/degreaser according to label directions. Once spots are cleaned, power-scrub the entire floor. To clean a two-car garage floor, plan on scrubbing for 20 to 30 minutes (keep the floor wet all the time). Make sure you scrub with a stiffbristle hand brush along the walls and in the corners where the machine cannot reach. Once youYe satisfied with dirt removal, vacuum up the cleaner for proper disposal.

Step4: First coat-Epoxy sealing agent

First coat is JB-epoxy sealing primer. Rolling or spraying method is recommended. The coating process must be continuous until just covers substrate.

Theoretical spread rate will be 0.08KG/m2(at 30um)

After application of epoxy sealing primer, do not put any water on it and strictly leave it in natural dry.It will take 1-day or 8H for dry for moving next step.

Step5: Second coat-Epoxy putty

Two component epoxy putty are recommended for better resistance to abrasion, impact, water, mineral oil, acid & alkali as well as better flatness.

4.1 Grind the and vacuum the surface.

4.2 Before your application, please clean your floor without oil,dust and make your floor substrate to be flat, no crack, no water which is totally dry(moisture content less 3%).

To sum up,identify above form especially mix ratio first.Then, mix epoxy putty Hardener Part B(Liquid 3.2KG) into water(2.8KG) well.After that,Pour and mix 25KG powder(Epoxy putty Part APowder) into mixture(6KG)slowly.Finally, pour the mixture into floor and use scrapper to do application.

Theoretical spread rate will be 1.43KG/m2(at 1mm),so it will be 7.15KG/m2(at 5mm)

After application of epoxy putty, do not put any water on it and strictly leave it in natural dry.It will take 1-day for First step dry,but you need wait at least 7 days(maintenance period)for moving next step.

Step6: Third coat-Epoxy sealing agent

Step 7: Finish coat- Repairable Epoxy floor paint

Repairable epoxy floor paints are tough resins that come in two parts that you mix together just before you apply them. Also, some small holes and cracks could repaired by finish coat.

The epoxy typically contain from at least 100 percent solids (epoxy). They penetrate and adhere well. And they're often available in a wide range of colors, and can be designed with multiple function. The corresponding product is JB® industrial functional epoxy floor paint.

Whether you're working with epoxy, we recommend that you apply two coats to get enough build for long-term wear and durability. “Build”, refers to the thickness of the dried epoxy film. Check the TD sheets for theoretical spreading rate to make sure you buy enough. Here is the applying procedure:

Theoretical spread rate will be 0.65-1KG/m2(at 500um or more)

After application of repairable epoxy floor paint, do not put any water on it and strictly leave it in natural dry.It will take 2-day for dry,but you need wait at least 7 days(maintenance period)for walking.
